[SOLVED] Which Adobe Flash Player for Zorin 7 ?

When I was going to try out a web based video conferencing service it said I needed to have Adobe Flash Player set to allow use with their software, but it seems like Zorin 7 does not have Adobe Flash Player preinstalled.

When I went to the Adobe Flash Player download page it said to choose between the 4 following versions of it, but I don't know which one to choose for Zorin 7 -

YUM for Linux (YUM)
tar.gz for other Linux
rpm for other Linux
APT for Ubuntu 10.04+

Anyone know for sure which one of the above is the one to choose for Zorin 7 ?

Also, is there any specific proceedure for installing it after downloading it ?

I am new to Linux, so please explain in as simple terms as possible, thanks !

Hi,

flash player is pre-installed in Zorin 7, I don't know what website you were on but it is talking cr*p, do not download packages from untrusted sources and do not trust unknown websites!. Where were you surfing when you got the message?.

Was the mesasge something about "Peer Assisted Websites" by chance?, if you start flash and right click the screen, there is an option for "Global Settings" which you select and then look at "Peer Assisted Websites" and add the website you want to use!!.

I checked under preferences / apps in the Firefox browser and it only lists Shockwave flash, no Adobe.

It was 2 of these 3 sites that asked for Adobe - (one of them I did't check yet)

https://meetings.io/

http://www.anymeeting.com/

https://www.gruveo.com/#

If Adobe flash player is preinstalled, how do I get it to show up in Firefox ?

Thanks !

Hi,

I think all of those sites you pointed us to are for Windows based systems but I am not sure, I didn't log in and it did not show any flash media or ask to install flash!!.

Test your flash player here:

Actually the reason I was going to try those video conferencing sites was because they are supposed to work on various OSs, including Linux.

I tried that link to test it and the video stream doesn't load, when I right-clicked on it and went to global settings and it took me to the macomedia page that included:

To access the local Flash Player Settings Manager that is native to your operating system:

Windows: click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Flash Player
Macintosh: System Preferences (under Other) click Flash Player
Linux Gnome: System > Preferences > Adobe Flash Player
Linux KDE: System Settings > Adobe Flash Player

......under preferences in Firefox it does not list any Adobe flash, only Shockwave.

Hi,

open Synaptic and type "flash" in search, it should show the package "flashplugin-installer" as being installed, right click the package and mark it for "Reinstallation" and try the news link again to see if it works.

Don't forget to click on "Reload > Mark All Upgrades > Apply" while you are there!!.

I can't find any "Synaptic" only the "Software Center" and it shows Adobe flash as being installed but right-clicking on it does not open anything.

Also I don't see any "reload" option either.

Under "File" at the top left corner it has an option that says "Reinstall previous purchases...." but I don't have any "previous purchases" that I bought so I was not sure if that was the right option or not.

Is Synaptic supposed to automatically be in Zorin 7 or is the "Software Center" the current replacement for it ?

Thanks, like I said - I'm really new to Linux :)

Ok, I did the reinstall, it also installed / upgraded a lot of other stuff too and took a while.

I tried that link again, but still no video.

Before doing the reinstall the Adobe flash listed in Synaptic had a "!" (exclaimation sign) by it, but now it doesn't so it would seem like it is fixed but still no video at that link.

I'm using Firefox. (version 22.0) (it also says Mozilla Firefox for Ubuntu canonical - 1.0)
(this is the Firefox I downloaded from the Zorin "Software Center")

All sites including YouTube as well as video conferencing sites like

https://meetings.io/

http://www.anymeeting.com/

https://www.gruveo.com/#

Wolfman had a test link in an earlier post, but that still does not show video, just has the icon that keeps going in circles like it's trying to load the video.

If Adobe flash is fixed on my system now, is there still something that needs to be done to activate it to work in all sites ?

Thanks !

Ok, just wanted to let y'all know that after doing the reinstall of adobe flash I finally saw how and where I also needed to do an "allow" for the web sites and that got those web sites to work.

Thanks to everyone for all the ideas to try !

Being a Linux newbie can be a challenge, but I'm learning more and more :)
