[SOLVED] Zorin 6.3 & grub menu

Hi everybody, how are you?

I'm running on a Acer Aspire 5100-5840 laptop and noticed a grub menu difference.

Instead of Zorin being automatically chosen after 10 seconds, that blue screen has highlighted Zorin on top, but there''s no countdown. It will sit there forever until I press Enter.

Any suggestions?

Hello:

First of all You should use 'madvinegar solution' ( it's the first answer to the previously mentioned post - - viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4511)

An easier option is start from a live cd, open a terminal window (terminal) an write:

sudo update-grub

(as 'wolfman' suggested at that post)

If not». I'll try 'BOOT REPAIR':

http://www.sourceforge.net/p/boot-repair/home/Home/

If it doesnt't work for me, the choosen option should be reinstall the S.O. (But wait for other more knowledge users help because they'll tell u a better and not so 'drastic' option)

Have a nice day

--------------

I think you repaired your SO with these solutions but you can also find an step by step guide at:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4635

------------

Is it solved now??

Hi,

if the other suggestions don't work for you, run "DPKG" per this guide which requires a network cable!:

I did the "madvinegar solution" and it worked. I then did 'sudo gedit /etc/default/grub', changed from 10 to 5, clicked Save and then in terminal 'sudo update-grub'. I rebooted and it went back to my issue (no countdown).

Any ideas?

Honestly no. I'll just let 10 seconds go by. Can DPKG hurt anything?

Hi,

no it won't hurt because it is a package repair tool as well as an updater!!.

DPKG ran fine but then Zorin was acting worse than before :(
It's an empty PC so 1 wipe using DBAN and I'll reinstall Zorin from scratch.

Thanks for all the help so far & I'll keep you updated :)

Hi,

I have another question, did you use a disk to install and did you burn it at the slowest possible speed?:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4771

That might explain why you are having problems if you did burn the disk too fast!.

I wiped and re-installed. Before doing 210 updates via Ethernet cable, I changed grub menu from default (10) to 5 then restarted and :)
I'll see after updates - *fingers crossed*
