I tried installing Samba to share a printer. I got the following error;
* Starting domain name service... bind9 [ OK ]
Setting up ldb-tools (1:1.1.13-1) ...
Setting up python-dnspython (1.10.0-1) ...
Setting up samba-dsdb-modules (4.0.0+dfsg1-1ubuntu1) ...
Setting up samba4-common-bin (4.0.0+dfsg1-1ubuntu1) ...
Setting up samba4 (4.0.0+dfsg1-1ubuntu1) ...
ERROR(<class 'samba.provision.InvalidNetbiosName'>): uncaught exception - The name ''ROBBY-ASPIRE-5734Z'' is not a valid NetBIOS name
File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/samba/netcmd/__init__.py", line 175, in _run
return self.run(*args, **kwargs)
File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/samba/netcmd/domain.py", line 398, in run
The install then continued. As soon as it finished, this is where it gets strange, I received a system error msg "system has recovered from an internal error, program installation failed." Then asked about reporting it, I clicked report, and received another error msg "Reporting failed, this is not an authentic installation of Zorin. Please remove any third-party software and try reporting again." The only thing I can think of that I have installed that is not allowed is LightScribe, and it was installed from an .deb file. But, that should not affect Samba's installation. Especially since the error was a unvalid NetBIOS name. What was wrong with the name, if you know?
Does anyone have any ideas? I appreciate you taking the time to deal with my problems.
