[SOLVED] Regular boot fail

Hi guys,

Getting an annoying regular occurance of Zorin OS6 failing to boot up?

Power on, wait for a few seconds and get the choice to boot in to Zorin or Safe mode or just let countdown timer run and it'll boot.

BUT

it seems that on a number of occasions it "stalls" on a very dark grey screen?! the ONLY option is to power off and power on and usually the 2nd attempt ALWAYS boots up perfectly!

Running on a Lenovo T400 4gb Ram & Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU P8400 @ 2.26GHz × 2

Any ideas?

Hi Jim,

boot into recovery mode and run "DPKG" per this guide:

A network cable is required for the above!!.

Let us know if it helps.

Haven't had chance to get ethernet connected to try Wolfman's method yet, but this has happened on a preivous 500GB HDD (Which is now in a spare laptop and still running OK)

AND on my newly installed 750GB HDD, so quietly confident that its not a failing HDD!!

Thanks anyway!

Strangely, at the time of the initial request for help on this, a couple of updates have been done on my system "automatically" via update manager and the issue hasn't since??!!

So, looks like we're good!!
