My modeswitch is now working and my E3131 Huawei HiLink comes up on the desktop but the system won't execute the autorun file which points to an install file on the dongle's firmware.
that autorun will only work under a M$ O/S
follow this guide:-

this enabled an upgrade - to a later version of the modeswitch,
- my E3131 would *not* work correctly, before the upgrade & now, - it works fine.
this "upgrade" has now been done on several Mint PCs & this Zorin PC.
- with versions based on Ubuntu 10.04 / 10.10 / 11.04 / 12.04
