Thanks for the extremely informative reply. I've now used Synaptic and all seems to be well.

thanks again

I've just migrated to Zorin from Ubuntu 12.04

Software Updater pops up with a message that updates are available, but when I put in my password it returns with "Requires installation of untrusted packages". I can't find a way past this point.

I've installed
Opera
Firefox
Dropbox
Brightness Controller

all from the Software Center.

As well I'd like to install vym from teh Software Centre but I get "Requires Installation of untrusted packages"

the repair button just shows the same message again.

Needless to say, I didn't have these problems with ubuntu.

Any advice?

thanks in advance.

Hi,

you have to accept the "Untrusted" packages or you will never be able to install some 3rd party software, for a complete rundown of how to update via the command line; you can take a look here:

If you ever run "DPKG" per the guide, make sure you use a network cable!.

I have found that Ubuntu Software Center is slow and often takes its time to install packages, I recommend that you use "Synaptic" package manager or "Gdebi" which are faster!.

Only install packages that you know where they came from and are indeed trusted!.
