[SOLVED] how do I 'force' new kernel

hazzbeen

Zorin 6 64bit
my update is showing a new kernel 3.2.0-54, for some reason it's still booting into 0-52
how can I 'force' it to boot into 54

Also same issue with Zorin 7 Ultimate 64b it's stuck on 3.8.0-27, update showing 3.8.0-31

I know I should know this but right atm the old brain not working

regards

Hi Hazz,

try the terminal command:

Code:
sudo dpkg --configure -a

(Ideally the above should be done in recovery mode, boot into reovery mode and start "network" (network cable required) then drop to "root" and restart with Ctrl + Alt + Del", do not click on "Resume"!!:)

If that doesn't work, try:

Code:
sudo update-grub

And finally; the force update command:

Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -f

Hi Hazz,

glad you asked me that, the reason is simple, during the update process; there might be new graphic card driver packages installed and if you don't do a full restart, it may cripple your system graphics, thats it!.

Have marked as solved but which part worked?.

thanks for that info

"sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -f" was the last one tried, after 2 re-boots the new kernel showed up as being active

thanks once again for your help
