I have quite a few usb drives.
However two of them don't show.
They don't show in any terminal checks either.
One is a buffalo 320gb
the other is a generic Sata to usb converted with a case.
Any help will be much appreciated
All other usb drives are OK including flash and sd cards
Cheers.

Open synaptic (Menu | System Tools | Administration | Synaptic Package Manager) and enter 'usb' in the search box - scroll down to the bottom to find usbmount - which indicates references to 'pmount' and 'hal' packages - having checked for these on Zorin, pmount is not present, nor is the main package 'hal' - I cannot guarantee success - please keep us posted if you do get a solution as it might help others. Oh, and welcome to Zorin by the way! :D

Thanks Swarfender.
That didn't work on the two drives I mentioned.
Maybe it is just that Buffalo drive doesn't work with Linux.
It would be interesting to know if other folk got a buffalo drive to work.

PS. Zorin is the most stable version of Linux I have found.

Hi ecrivain5

Iv'e got a Buffalo 250GB USB2 external drive and a cheap USB2 - SATA lead, never had any problems with them in Zorin. Have you tried them on another computer?

Hi Auldyn.
Are you saying that you connect it with a usb to SATA lead? I am using usb to usb.
Let me know and I will give it a try.
Cheers.
Brian

Hi Brian

Are you saying that you connect it with a usb to SATA lead?

No the Buffalo is connected to USB . I connect an old internal SATA HD to USB with a SATA to USB lead.
If they work in Windoze they should work in Zorin.

I have a Buffalo 2TB - no issues - but I don't have it connected all the time - USB - came preformatted to NTFS but I can still see it in Zorin - I have backed up my /home's plenty of times (so when I view in Windows it wants to format it! )

Thanks to you all.
I will give it to my brother to try it on windose again and see if it will work. Maybe it has disk problem. Just weird that my Omata disk is ok and 2 converted sata drives are also OK. DOH:-)
Thanks again.

Hi Brian,

paste this command in a terminal and press enter and put in your password, then start the app "Startup Applications" and look for the box "Mount Helper" and make sure it has a tick in it!:

Code:
sudo sed -i 's/NoDisplay=true/NoDisplay=false/g' /etc/xdg/autostart/*.desktop
