Lagging on some e-mail features. SOLVED-changed O.S.

Not sure if this is Zorin related or Thunderbird, but not a problem I have ever had in T'Bird. - There seems to be a big lag, or total stall, when, on receiving e-mail, I double click on a subject to maximise it. - Nothing happens, so I normally go to the bottom panel & click on the subject to minimise it, then click again to maximise it. - This does the trick but then, if I have a button in an e-mail like "Show Remote Content", well the same thing happens. - It all gets to be a real nuisance.- It has been happening now for approx 3 months & I have ignored it for a while hoping it would be noticed & a fix sent down, but no such luck.
Anyone have any ideas???? - Rgds.

Thanks; I had already been there & found nothing of any use. As mentioned, I have never really encountered any real probs with T'Bird at all & this is almost beginning to look like a very memory hungry system, or a graphics card trying to 'go west', but at present, I can not be sure.

Hi,

it might be a dependency problem, try runing the following terminal command and then restart and see if it helps:

Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -f

Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks. Tried that but sadly, nothing has changed. It is still a bit hit & miss, requiring a min then max via the bottom panel. (faster that way.) ---Rgds.

Hi,

try changing your sources download selection to another server, see update guide on how to do that:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2247

Then try updating with that command again.

Tried all that, to no avail. - I suspect the nvidia drivers are being poorly maintained, or dumped, or whatever, to force the purchase of a new graphics card. - Would be nice if something else were available but at present, mainly on e--mail, it is still tardy. The only other thought is that Zorin is a bit hungry, but this is a recent problem, so I doubt it. --Rgds.

Hi,

you should only use the "nvidia-current" drivers as I have had problems with Nvidia myself and only use the recommended drivers which are in the "nvidia-current" package!.

Did all that, including getting Nvidia Current from Synaptic, - Did a full re-start & it all seems the same, but 2 exceptions were noted. 1: On 1 occasion, the mouse cursor suddenly dived to the right of the screen for no reason and 2: Sometimes when opening a normally troublesome e-mail I noticed that if the page was blank, I COULD TURN THE CENTRE WHEEL ON THE MOUSE AND THE PAGE WOULD COME UP, STILL WITH PORTIONS OF THE PREVIUS PAGE, MOSTLY ON THE TOP LEFT. -- I would still need to do a Min>Max to get the page up properly. This one is beginning to look like a giant killer. - Rgds.

Hi,

did you update again once you restarted in case there were more updates after installing the Nvidia drivers?.

I do remember that datek1 (R.I.P.) recommended certain models of nVidia cards - no this is not possible with chipsets but I have had no issues with my recently purchased GT620 using nvidia current - I think there may be issues with the newer cards - but wait to be corrected by Gizmuntu.

Yes. From Memory there were approx 51mg of updates yesterday. - System seems to be up to date at present when I check it. E-mail pages still have same problems. - I wonder if it is graphics card related, or even the mouse? Hard to tell as I do not notice these probs normally, in Firefox. Maybe another e-mail client, although I far prefer Thunderbird to others. - - Rgds.

Hi,

restart in recovery mode and activate "Network" then select "root", then enter the following command:

Code:
sudo dpkg --configure -a

After that, press "Esc" and go to "DPKG" and let it do its thing, restart with Ctrl + Alt + Del and let us know if that helps at all.

Yes; done. - I do not think we will get much further with this one. - I may try a new mouse sometime & if that does not do it, I may need to look at a new graphics card. That is about all I can think of. - Maybe Nvidia don't support this card so good anymore. Thx.
