[SOLVED] USB Stick Insertion Brings up Document Viewer

Hi Team,

I've upgraded to 7.1, it's a long story :-)

Now for some reason whenever I insert my USB stick the Document Viewer pops up and has a red banner saying 'Unable to open document, Error opening file: Permission denied.' The only way I can view files is to open a terminal and type gksu nautilus. If I then right click the drive and click properties I get a banner flash up for a split second saying 'Cannot change Owner...' and Nautilus closes. In the Terminal window I see this:
**
ERROR:nautilus-properties-window.c:1836:schedule_owner_change_timeout: assertion failed: (NAUTILUS_IS_FILE (file))

What did I do wrong and how can I fix it?

I don't know why but the USB stick opens fine under my wifes account on the same PC.

Cheers in advance for any help. :)

Hi,

is the file write protected with a password?. Are you logged in as system administrator?, if you are the only user, you are automatically logged in as sysadmin.

Nope, not password protected. I am logged in as the sys admin account. I just want to be able to view the contents of the stick like I can when logged in as a normal user :-)

Hi,

I think it is a bug, do what they suggest here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2160071

Hope it helps.

OK, I did the above but that has no effect on what happens when I plug in my USB stick, the stick still tries to open with Document Viewer.

GoTo > Main Menu > Computer > Your Flash Drive

And Right Click on the Flash Drive.
GoTo Properties...the Screenshot below will explain the rest.
This should solve the problem.

OK, resolved :-)

Thanks for all the sugestions.

@Gizmuntu - I couldn't get that far as the drive would crash out when I selected properties.

It turns out that all I had to do was this:

sudo chown user /media/user/

So http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2160071 was on the right track

I found the answer here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/247291/could-not-display-media-the-location-is-not-a-folder:
