Looking for a DVD Video Burner Program

As an old Windows User who is gradually moving into the world of Linux I've been looking for tools to replace the things I've always done in Windows. The other day I happened to be running Ubuntu/Zorin and I had some video files from youtube I wanted to convert/burn to a DVD to play on my TV DVD Player. I found Brasero on my Distro so I decided to try it. It seemed to read the file formats I'm using (AVI and Mp4) But when I clicked on burn it ejected my disc and said I have a disc error. I know for a fact that there is nothing wrong with my RW DVD because I've been using it with Windows DVD Maker, and after I gave up on Brasero I went back to windows to burn the DVD. Windows DVD Maker did it just fine. I also have Ubuntu installed, so I booted up with Ubuntu and found Brasero. This time when I tried it, it wanted me to install some extra things for reading my files. I downloaded them and installed them. Next I tried to burn, but after letting it run for an hour the progress bar never moved! I don't know what's wrong but my Brasero seems to be junk on two operating systems! I'm looking for something that I can take my Videos files and make normal DVDs for my TV DVD player. What are my options?

instead of Brasero, try using K3b.

as it's part of the KDE shell, it will also install a chunk of the KDE shell.
- install it from synaptic itself.

some people think that K3b is more reliable than Brasero anyway ..

DeVeDe is a free, open-source Video to DVD converter that is also in synaptic

For download I use: smplayer with YouTube:

http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/

and WinFF for conversion to .avi - it is in the repositories.

http://winff.org/html_new/index.html

You need the Ubuntu version for Zorin if doing an external download - otherwise search for winFF in Synaptic Package Manager - Menu | System | Tools | Administration | Synaptic Package Manager and enter 'winFF' in the search box top centre.

One thing I have found quirky with Brasero is that you are best launching the application first then choosing your project - that said K3b is still the best out there - must try 'imgburn' under WINE sometime! :D

I use a firefox add on called "Video Download Helper"
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... oadhelper/

I use, ffmpeg ( I think it has been renamed to avconv now, but I'm not sure ) to be able to convert all my downloaded data to another format.
PLEASE NOTE: ffmpeg is a CLI tool, not a gui tool I don't know of any gui tools or this, sorry.

Then I use k3b ( perhaps the best burning tool I have ever used ) to be able to burn the disk...
you can install it by running, "sudo apt-get install -y k3b" it will then ask for your password and then it will download and install.

Are you trying to create a movie? If yes, try AppGeeker DVD Creator.

http://www.appgeeker.com/convert/burn-flv-to-dvd.html

it's an awesome piece of software for that kind of stuff!

I use DeVeDe you can get it from the software center, tutorials can found on youtube. I use format junkie to convert mkv files. Most file types work except mkv only one I've had to convert. Google for info on how to install format junkie on ubuntu
