I have my printer installed (Brother MFC- 7420), but I have not been able to print anything. The printer screen will say "receiving data" then the message clears without anything happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

How is your printer connected to your computer? USB or Wifi? And which printer driver did you choose?
I found this:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1923155.
This shows step-by-step how to setup the printer. Although Ubuntu 11.10 is mentioned, I think it still can be applied.

Thank you momko and others. I followed your post and it was as easy as using Brother MFC- 9600 Foomatic/hl 1250 (recommended) en driver for my MFC-7420 printer. The printer now works local and wireless via Linksys print server. The print delay it much faster than windows!

I downloaded two new packages per your recommendation. Thank you.
