Hi David,

for a desktop clock you can install "screenlets-pack-all" package and choose a clock from there but you won't get the same clock as the one in the panel, or you can install "Conky Manager:

http://www.unixmen.com/enhance-your-ubu ... creenlets/

Install screenlets via a terminal:

Code:
sudo apt-get install screenlets-pack-all

Thunderbird problems can be resolved here:

I think the date thing is down to you having US English, if you change your system locale to British English, the date format should change???.

Hi david7307, go to:

Menu | System Settings | Language Settings - top panel.

It should prompt you to install missing languages - select 'do it now' and check the languages listed. Then check on the 'Locales/Regional Settings' (doing this from memory as using work puter) and add 'English (United Kingdom)' and 'Install' - then click on 'Apply System-Wide' - you may need to logout/restart for changes to take effect. There is one other place where you need to 'copy' the locale settings so that everything is English United Kingdom and again, 'Apply system-wide'.

As for a nice range of clocks, consider installing Cairo-Dock.

Open a terminal and enter:

Code:
sudo apt-get install cairo-dock
