[SOLVED] Nautilus - Gimme back my menus!

In ZOS 8/32, the text menus in Nautilus are disabled (I guess) - I can get to "preferences" using the gear but there's no option to put those back. Is there a setting in dconf-editor I can change? Or?

Hi,

this is somewhat old but still in effect I believe:

I don't think there is a fix using the Win 7 look in Zorin?.

Ah man.. Thanks for the link. I've been using Zorin6 for a while now before moving to 8. Nautilus just "worked", ease of script use, etc. Now I can't even figure out how to run the hash checker script. I'll dive into it and see what I can come up with. I never imagined that some features would be removed completely.

Hi,

I don't think it will be resolved soon as the Gnome devs have taken a new direction and are changing as much as they can for the worse it seems!.

Okay, for others also new to this version, here's how to check the hashes

I installed the hash checker script and a few others from Synaptic before I realized that Nautilus had drastically changed. So this may work out of the box, or you may need to install the script for it to work.

Launch File Manager
Navigate to an ISO or whatever you need to check
Right click
Scroll to Properties
Click on Digest tab
select check boxes for any/all the various hashes you want to use (md5, sha1, whatever)
click the HASH button

it displays all the hashes there.

Hi critter, the best two checkers are:

A:
1. Open a terminal (Ctrl+ Alt+ T) and 'cd' to the Downloads folder:

Code:
cd Downloads

2, then:

Code:
md5sum [name of iso exactly as it appears in Downloads folder]

Takes up to 30 seconds to come back with the md5sum.

B: Use Firefox with 'Down Them All!' - there is a box to choose what # has to be checked:
