Good morning everyone,
I went and got the Ultimate edition of Zorin as I am just getting sick of using Windows. I have completely switched over to Ubuntu 9.04 in the past, but came back to Windows 7 once Canonical switched to Unity. The issue that I am having just the last couple of days is with my AMD Radeon 8700M graphics card and getting it to work under Zorin. I have a Samsung ATIV Book 8 laptop with a hybrid graphics card. The lower performance graphics card (Intel HD 4000) is what shows up by default in Zorin. The AMD graphics card does not, however the drivers screen shows that I can use one of two fglrx drivers. I read the sticky that said that installing fglrx will break Zorin and I have been one to witness that before signing up for the forums. I tried both the fglrx and fglrx-updates drivers with the black screen and a few lines of text coming up every time. I went to AMD's website and downloaded a .run file, but I was not able to get it to load as an executable, even with checking the box under properties/permissions. I have used these files under Ubuntu before and they ran by themselves in the terminal.
So, my question is if there is a way to get my AMD graphics card working on Zorin? If it is a matter of switching over to my AMD card and not using my Intel card, I am perfectly fine with that. Basically, I will be doing school on this computer and playing World of Warcraft as well as some other Linux games that I can find in the software center, but first I need to get the AMD graphics card working. At the present moment, I have Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon on my laptop; however I am easily able to switch back to Zorin after I can get some help on squashing the bug with the fglrx driver.
I have never had an issue with the fglrx driver on other distros before when I had my Alienware M15x, and I know that bugs come up with newer releases. I would be grateful if somebody could help me out with this issue. Thanks!
