DVD will not read Disks

i have a dvd dive that will not read genuine disks movies only tried so far,but will read a copied disk that has been made earlier with acid rip
i am using the zorin 6 ultimate and all updates are done
will this be a disk error or a softwear i hope the later
also tried it in windows 7 same thing
the disk drive has had little use and is just over a year old
i tried changing the region settings on it it cant read the disk to do this
i did try with a copied disk and i would let me change to region 4
any help
or is it a trip to the computer shop for a new drive and if so what is a good drive reliable to buy

Hi,

have you tried using VLC to play the DVD's?. (I assume you have, just asking!)

Try installing the following packages: (Or make sure they are already installed!)

divxenc
dvd+rw-tools
dvdauthor
libdvdcss2
libdvdnav4
libdvdread4
ubuntu-restricted-extras
videotrans


Open Synaptic and type "dvd" in search and look down the list and install any of the missing packages.
