Hello all,

I have a canon pixma mg 6350 printer/scanner combination.
The printer is working in linux (thanks to this forum ;) )

Now it would be nice if I could get the scanner to work also.
I downloaded the driver from the canon website:
http://nl.canon.be/Support/Consumer_Pro ... e=download
This resulted in a file named: scangearmp-mg6300series-2.00-1-deb.tar.gz (I think its a compressed file?)
So I unpacked it and it looks like this:

In the package folder are two files( since" I run a 64bit system, the two 64 bitfile) I need to install:

Now how can I install it??? I assum it has to be done using the terminal, but I have no clue how...

greets
Peter

I see they are both .deb files - right-click the 'common-files' one - don't use archive manager but choose the arrowed option below it and see if 'gdebi package manager is present' - you can install using gdebi! Let me know if you haven't got it! :D

Hi, if it's of any help to anyone, I found these instructions on another forum for installing a Canon Pixma printer, this worked for me on the Zorin 8 OS without having to do any Terminal commands........

Connect printer via usb cable, turn it on, then type http://localhost:631/ into the address bar of your browser. Go to the' Admin' or 'Administration' tab and you can "Add Printer". There is then a drop-down menu shown with all Canon printers listed, find your exact model and click on it and set your printing preferences etc.

@Ziva
Thanks for the info. I did not use your method ( my printer is wifi connected and printing is working), but it can be helpfull for others later. :)

@Swarfendor437
I did not have the gdebi package installer, but I managed to install it using the Softwarecentrum.
I installed the common 64 bit of the scannersoftware using gdebi package installer. It says the software is installed fine.

Now how can I scan?? Kinda lost in finding a scanoption... :?
Thanks again for your help!

My Canon Pixma is an "All-in-One" and the scanner part worked for me even before I had properly installed the machine. Just find "Simple Scan" in your Start Menu and you might find you can scan without doing anything. Although your's may be different as it's wifi, try this anyway. If no luck there should be some software in the "Software Centre" related to scanners that may work for you.
:D

Hi Ziva, thanks for your input! :D gagaman - follow Ziva's advice - I believe it is 'Simple Scan' but can't confirm as on lunch break at work! :D

Thanks for the help.

But no luck so far. This is what I get in simple scan:

Translation:
No scanner detected...
Check whether your scanner is installed and active.

I tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers, did a reboot after installation. Started simple scan with scanner active/not active...
The printer and scanner are connected wifi... printer is working ok.
It's not an option to connect with usb... I have other devices that need to acces the printer/scanner with wifi...

Any ideas???

A search around the Ubuntu forum may help, here is one thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1089972 and it mentions XSane http://www.xsane.org/xsane-introduction.html

Ziva

I tried the http://localhost:631/ method and it asks for a password

Hi, I think this should be your login password - it needs this to elevate you to 'root' (similar to administrator on Windows). ;)
