I have an old Dell Inspiron 8600. It ran XP fine. I want to install the Z OS on it and I hit a brick wall due to the no PAE. Is there someway I can can get a version of the OS that has it. If not. How might I do it if there is a way.
Thanks

Hi and welcome to the Zorin forum! Which version of Zorin are you trying to install?

Hi back at ya and thank you for the welcome. I tried 8 and 6.4. Thinking the 6.4 would have it, but I'd like 8 sense it's the newest.
Thanks

Hi, I would go for the straight 6.0 - 8 is not LTS - 6 is! :D

OK... So what you are saying that 6.0 has PAE?
Thanks

HI, I will have to check this out and get back to you - am I correct in thinking you have a 32-bit (x86) processor?

1.25 gb ram.

This is my last post of today (in my lunch break) - no internet at home! :(

It looks like you have no answer to a 32bit non-pae kernel for my old Dell, so I'll have to try another OS.
Thanks

HI and sorry for the delay. I have been busy ensuring XP on kids machines has it internet connections disabled and setting up printer on new Router across the home network. Yes 6.0 I am afraid is PAE!

I would highly recommend the following two distributions for your machine as alternatives (both LTS to April 2017:

Keep the Gnu and the Penguin! :D

Thanks. The trisquel_6.0_i686 worked out fine.
Thanks again.
