Does Zorin 8 come with an anti virus program or do I need to install one?

Hi,

see this thread although I don't don't use an AV prog, if you are moving things to Windows then you should scan them first.

See also:

which is in the repos and easy to install.

Is there something better than an AV program for security purposes?

I am using Zorin 8. What do you recommend to protect my computer? Keep in mind, I am technologically-challenged, sort of.

The nasties you should protect yourself from on any system are rootkits - install chkrootkit - see my posting here and follow the guides:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6707&hilit=+chkrootkit#p31754

Also check any .deb files before unpacking them if not from a 'known source':

AV is really to protect others from files you may inadvertently pass on via e-mail etc in attachments. :D

Hi,

a strong admin password and seperate user accounts will be good enough, if you only install apps from trusted sources like the Debian/Ubuntu repo's, you should be safe!.
