Running 8.1 32-bit. After a reboot, no progs on task bar and I can't add any -- icons bounce off. I recently installed 8.1, let it do updates, and sorry, but I can't remember if this happened before or after I rebooted. I had a screen freeze before the updates and had a cold reboot after that. Should I reinstall the entire OS or is there a fix? I can't run in safe mode currently because I have no mouse/keyboard action during the boot process.

Did you try a different keyboard and mouse?

Could it be a hard drive issue?

Hi,

start your PC even if you have no keyboard until it boots, press Ctrl + Alt + t and paste the following command in the terminal, let it do its thing then restart your PC with Ctrl + Alt + Del to log out and then restart.

Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -f

To manually start AWN:

Code:
avant-window-navigator

If it is really screwed up, reinstall with:

Code:
sudo apt-get purge avant-window-manager && sudo apt-get install avant-window-manager
