When I try to use Simple Scan I get a warning sign that says "No scanners detected" Be sure your scanner is connected and powered on. IT IS! I need to make a slide show for my son's High School graduation which involves scanning lots of pictures. HELP!

I have already went to the Document>Preferences part of the scanning program to select the scanner but, it doesn't have anywhere for me to select a scanner and I am unable to type one in.

Hi Tea, well it would appear that it is supported, as Zorin 8 is built around Ubuntu 13.10:

Have you installe the HPLIP packages in 'Synaptic Package Manager'? as it would appear it is reliant on that (Menu | System Tools | Administration | Synaptic Package Manager - and search for 'hplip' - you may also see what an 'hp' search brings back in case additional packages are also needed - won't hurt! :D

I did as you said and this is what appears:
There are green boxes next to the following: hplip and hplip-data

There aren't green boxes by hplip-dbg, hplip-doc, hplip-gui

Does this help?

I can print from my printer but I cannot scan.

HI again, Well if they are green squares then they are installed. What happens if you check the other ones that aren't and click on 'Apply' - what happens then?

They are now being installed.

Now it shows that they are installed so now I am going to try the Simple Scan again.

I suppose I have to restart the computer before I can try to scan, right?
