trouble with file share

Nanny Puddles

I am having trouble with file share over the network. I have opened/shared the files on the main PC and I can see them from all other computers in the network but when I try to open the file Zorin asks me for a password. I have entered the password that should be for that PC but it is a no go. If I have shared the file why is it asking me for a password, I never made it password protected? What am I doing wrong? Also, if I leave main PC running XP it works flawlessly but my objective is to eliminate XP

Thanking you in advance,
Nan

P.S. Sorry for being a Windoze geek

Hi Nancy,

I am not an expert in this field but are you running your system as "Admin" or normal user, if you are normal user, you need to assign sharing to that user, take a look here:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/66718/ho ... and-groups

and make any access changes by adding the user groups accordingly!.

What type of "File Share" are you doing?, Samba?:
