[SOLVED] Importing Thunderbird messages & settings - Zorin

Can anybody please shed some light as how I can solve this - I've installed Thunderbird on an XP machine, imported all settings and mail messages, backed up the profile folder, and - I've now installed Zorin on my Notebook PC, copied the Thunderbird profile folder into my home folder, ran Thunderbird, but cannot import my mail settings or messages. When opening Thunderbird, it simply does not find/see my profile in the home folder.

Please help, many thanks?

Hi,

basically; what you need to do is replace the .thunderbird folder with the one you want to replace it with. Follow these steps:

Right click and copy the main folder of your Thunderbird folder, open your home folder (if not already open) and then press Ctrl + h, which will show hidden files, you will see a folder with the name ".thunderbird", now right click and "Paste" (you are pasting the original Thunderbird folder you copied a little earlier!), it should say, "The .thunderbird folder already exists. Do you want to replace it?", say yes and that should completely overwrite your current Thunderbird folder with all your settings and mails!.

Please note, you must have started Thunderbird at least once before it will show in the home folder even if you didn't set it up with an account!.

Hope it helps. :D

An old article but guess should still work - did you keep your Thunderbird mail client up-to-date as updates were released? Just thinking about any issues in different versions, but hopefully should not be an issue.

Thanks very much, it worked first time. So far I'm impressed with Zorin. Hope it's going to continue to improve.
