I have just downloaded Zorin OS 8 (LTS) 64 bit using Google Chrome but when I extract it there is no .iso file for me to burn to disc.

Now where did you download the image from? You are better using FireFox or Opera.

Well I downloaded via sourceforge which is where they tend to link to these days I'm sure:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/zorin-os/files/8/

Just checked when starting download they are .iso's - nor zip or winrar - I think you had better check your site link! ;)

when did zorin 8 become a LTS

I am downloading your link right now. The file ends with .iso but shows a WinRAR logo on my computer. I burned this to a disc but it doesn't create anything bootable.

the file is called zorin-os-8.1-core-64, size is 1,711,104kb, file type: WinRar archive.

Hi,

you must extract the zipped file first, simply copying to a disk is not good enough!:

I think you must have some file association problems - this is what I downloaded without unzipping anything!

Of course I extracted it first but there is no .iso image file inside any of the folders.

so do you think my computer is associating the .iso file type with .rar ? can that be corrected?

OK, do you have access to any other OS? I would download imgburn from here:

http://imgburn.com - only download from their mirror - usually last option.

Install it then go back to the 'win.rar' file, right-click and select - open with. I am beginning to wonder if you have a security issue now that XP is no longer supported? :o

imgburn is burning the file to disc now. I will check to see if it's bootable.

It's a good thing I've taken everything of importance off this computer, I wondered how long it might take for security issues to arise. I thought the whole end of XP support was scare-mongering.

To be on the safe side download the iso again and use that file you downloaded to make an install disk or usb.
It's all up to you.
I myself would start fresh.
Don't extract anything.
Apparently your using windows with winrar.
Winrar is associating itself with the iso confusing you it sounds like.
Right click on the iso file and go to where it says [ open with ] and select from that point as what to associate with the file.
Associate the iso with image burn that way.
You can browse where ever to do your association.
Desktop icon ect.
