After i installed Zorin 8 to my laptop, bootting has been problematic. Computer says that no bootable device. But bios indentifyes harddrive, and laptop boots useing usb memory stick and when i restart computer all is OK for a while.

I used gparted to flag boot partition from windows recovery partion to Zorins partition, but no help.

I am using Asus eeepc 1215b and windows 7 with zorin 8

Hi Mr_83, could you upload us a screenshot of your partitions using 'Gparted Partition Editor' (Menu | System Tools | Administration | Gparted ...) and then use 'Screenshot' (Menu | Accessories | Screenshot) to upload a picture to the forum? How to do that here:

OK, can you boot into Windows 7 at all? Did you make a System Repair Disc? Do you have access to a Windows 7 DVD? If not you need to reinstall Zorin again but do it manually this time! - Choose the 'something else method'. Delete all your ext4 and swap partitions and the extended one.

1. When you get to install again, create a third 'Primary' Partition of about 30 Gb of your 127 Gb partition (just enter 30000 in the partition size box of 'GParted' and mark it '/', formatted to 'ext4'
2. Create an 'extended' partition and first off add the 'swap' at the END of the extended partition and make it 4 Gb (4096).
3. Everything before that in the extended partition format to 'ext4' and mark as '/home'

Now, VERY important! At the bottom of the screen it asks where you want to put GRUB/Boot Loader - stipulate 'sda' but NEITHER 'sda1' or 'sda2' just 'sda' - I cannot guarantee this will work BUT YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK! :D

I can boot into windows normaly. Sometimes when bootting it takes really long time and gives error message "reboot and select proper boor device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" But after liveboot from USB the damn machine works just fine. I have restarted laptop for 20 times now and it start just fine

Yes, that is why I suggested a fresh install! :D

BUT make sure you make a Boot Repair Disc of your Windows 7 before doing so! :D

I´ll try reinstall zorin (tomorrow), should i uninstall the old one before that?. The repais disk is going to be trouble because laptop doesnt have DVDdrive.

Do you know anyone who has an external DVD Drive they could lend you or someone who has Windows 7 that could burn you a DVD? (Would have to be the exact same version of 7 to work though).

Basically I don't want you to screw up your 7 install, and I cannot guarantee that. When you do the fresh install, choose the 'something else' method and delete the extended partition and then add the partitions as I outlined earlier, but be sure to put GRUB at the start of sda - that is - the start of the drive and NOT the partitions sda1 or sda2 - sda1 is your system reserved space set up by Windows 7. Do you have a memory stick at all? Can you boot from USB? This might be worth investing in if you have one:

Note this is NOT a Windows Rescue CD - it is a technical one! :D

Hi,

boot from your Zorin OS boot medium (USB or Disk) and once Zorin has loaded, open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + t) and type the following commands you will find on this webpage (Boot repair). Just follow the instructions:

Right, just found this -

http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-repai ... -dvd-disc/

give it a whirl first BEFORE you attempt Zorin install - basically, boot with the repair usb for windows to make sure that it works, then follow the guidance I already posted! :D

Hi,

I think your boot problem might lie here "I used gparted to flag boot partition from windows recovery partion to Zorins partition, but no help.". Did you reset that after it failed?, I don't think a reinstall will help if you didn't set things back the way they were?.

Did you reset BIOS?.

Only thing i have done in bios is chance the boot order ( harddrive or usb) and disable the LAN boot

What if i try the bootloader again and install the grub in all disks. First time i choose the recommended repair option.

I think i solved the problem, I think it´s suspend mode that screws up the bootting. This morning when i bootted normally all went well but five minutes later when i used the suspend mode i wouldn't start at all. But i´ll keep you updated, AGAIN.

Hi,

suspend has caused problems with Ubuntu for a long time and basically you shouldn't use it!.

If you want to play around with it:
