How do I get Sims 2 running?

frogz2007

I was wondering if anybdy could guide me on getting The Sims 2 running? I saw somebody got it partially functioning, and I'd play it like that too.

Video of it:

It involves a hack that changes the vertex shader constants to 1024. Could anyone guide me on how to change this number in the Wine source so it functions?

when playing Windows games on Linux, use this terminal (Ctrl + Alt + t) command and install the following package:

Code:
sudo apt-get install mono-complete

Restart and try and play the game.

Hi,

the package is the complete Mono package set which is the .NET Framework Linux version, I was kinda hoping it would help you out a little!.

What graphics cards do you have?.

Paste the following terminal (Ctrl + Alt + t) command and then copy and paste the results here please so we can see what graphics card you have:

Code:
lspci

READ THE BOTTOM TWO LINKS VERY CAREFULLY PLEASE!.

Hi,

you have this model graphics card: GeForce 9400 GT, have you installed the Nvidia drivers and if so which ones?:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2490

You can install version 331 or nvidia-current, both should work for you but you should double check the lists in case I missed something!.

And don't forget to run an update once installed!.

I'll try this. Oh, and do you know how to patch Wine? There is a patch that makes the game work, but I have no idea how to patch it!

Hi,

sorry I don't know how to patch Wine, according to this, it should run under Zorin 8 (Ubuntu 13.10)!:

I really hope this works. I am downloading the ISO of Zorin 8.1 Core 64 bit right now. Are you sure this might work?

Basically, it would appear that it doesn't run well at all - I remember running old games with low graphics (you see it on the Wii when in MarioKart the graphics memory leaks into part of the course when someone falls off when you are observing before waiting to join the game. The Bronze rating means it will run - but not very well! ;)

Huh, well if it even starts the game up, I will be in ecstasy as I am addicted to the game. I just hope it will function.

Still didn't work. I'm about ready to give up.

Hi,

did you re-install the package "mono.complete" after you did the new install?. :D Did you install "direct X" when asked?. :D

frogz2007

Tue Apr 29, 2014 11:04:24 am

I tried running it in VirtualBox but it still didn't work, and I get a lot of "Problem" when installing the mono-complete. I got past the D3DERR_INVALIDCALL error, but now it says "The application has crashed. The application will now terminate" I need to get this running! >:(

Wolfman and I have given you the answers in previous posts - if you did get it running it would not run as it should - hence the 'Bronze Award' on the Codeweavers website! You might be worth joining the Wine forum for specific answers to this question as we are not experts in all things Wine! ;)

Hi,

have you fully updated your system?, try this terminal (Ctrl + Alt + t) command:

Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -f

Do a restart then try installing "mono-complete" again and then another restart, then try installing the game and don't forget "Direct X"!.
