wifi connection not working

schumacher

Mon Apr 28, 2014 6:57:49 pm

Hello. I am new to Zorin/Ubuntu. I recently installed Zorin 8 on my laptop I have an odd problem with my wifi connection at home. My computer connects, but loads no web pages. All my other devices are working, and the laptop connected to a wifi connection elsewhere. If I use my phone as a hotspot (at home) the connection between the laptop and my home wifi works (with the phone as intermediary). I have no idea how to even begin evaluating this issue.

Try changing channel on you router or method of connection (b+g+n) etc.

Also, maybe you should try changing the encryprion method on your router i.e. from wpa to wep and see if that helps.

And how would I do that from Zorin?

Hi,

every router has an access IP address, connect your PC to your router WITH A NETWORK CABLE and type in the address bar of your web browser something like the following: 192.168.2.1 and this will access the routers menu.

You need to check the routers make and model and find out wht IP address your partiticular router has, they vary a lot from model to model and make to make!.

To follow on from Wolfman, useful site here:

Hi guys. Thanks, this turned out to be very easy. When I accessed my router settings - following the address suggested by Wolfman - the security of the WIFI was set to WPA2-PSK. I remembered that for my wifi settings in zorin I could only choose to set it to WPA & WPA2 Personal, not just to WPA2. I changed my router settings to WPA & WPA2 Personal and it worked immediately.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Okay, internet works maybe 1 out of 10 times. Most of times fails to make connection. Changing the security settings does not work. What's wrong?

Please post back the following terminal results:

Ok try this. In terminal run:

echo 'options iwlwifi nohwcrypt=1' | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf

Reboot and see if that helped.
