Struggling with x screensaver

I installed x screensaver and the gl slideshow screensaver. It works OK until a re-boot then when I try to start the screensaver I get a message telling me the GNOME screensaver needs to be stopped for x screensaver to work properly. I don't see how to permanently stop the GNOME screensaver. Then It tells me x screensaver isn't running on display 0.0 and to click to launch it now. What I'd like is for the computer to automatically launch the gl slideshow screensaver after a period of inactivity. Please help, I have been struggling with the slideshow screensaver for a while now.

Hi Len,

paste this terminal (Ctrl + Alt + t) command then start "Startup Applications" and take out Screensaver:

Code:
sudo sed -i 's/NoDisplay=true/NoDisplay=false/g' /etc/xdg/autostart/*.desktop

Run Startup Applications from terminal:

Code:
gnome-session-properties
