(SOLVED) Cutomize look and feel in Zorin 8 lite

Strange things hapends when trying to customize the windows appearance themes in Zorin 8 Lite. I tried to change the theme to some darker than what Zorin Light is and selected some other themes there that was more ok. I looked the made selections opening some application windows and hapend to find out that in a game "mines" the grid disappeared totally in all other selections than Zorin Light. So those could not be used.

I tried then another option and used "Customized color schemes", It worked better, until now I got the grid also to "mines". I made at the same time a new theme selection to Icons from "GNOME" to "Humanity", and I was finally almost satisfied to the result. However when I looked the panel so there was something strange. Volume control, net connection and shut down icons was almost disappeared and invisible having now only the light gray color on those icons.

What to do then? I tried to restart but that did not change anything. Then I changed back the icon theme to GNOME and got back the icons to normal. The question here is, how to know what works or not because different softwares are not tested to work together in these distros. I have had similar issue in Zorin 8 Core with system monitor/resources and with AWN panel. There also the grid and panel items disappears now and then. Both os.es are updated and now we are waiting for a new LTS release, just when everything seems to be working little better. Look can now be better but the feel doesn't. I hope that it doesn't lead to a situation where we have to start everything from beginning again.

Hi Henri,

did you go here and download different themes per this section section in the guide?: "Downloading and adding extra themes:
"

http://gnome-look.org/index.php?xconten ... 5d2d6b8062

Did you also check out the Peppermint Linux website?:

http://peppermintos.com/guide/customize/

Some themes just simply won't work and you will have to play around with a few to get something that works!.

As far as the panel theme settings go, you cannot really do a great deal except play around with them: Right click bottom panel > Panel Settings > Appearance and make an adjustment or two!.

Thanks for tips. I looked trough them but I did not install any new themes yet. I made some additional trimming to the themes I used and the result is now very satisfactory. What I selected was the "Zorin Light" theme and "Clearlooks 3.4" for windows boarders. Then I used customized colors to make the Light more grayish with some different nyanches. For Icon theme I changed to "Humanity dark" to get rid of the blue and dark grey folders to the orange colored ones. These selections makes the UI outlook very nice, and more colored and comfortable to eyes. Only disadvantage here is that the earlier mentioned icons on the panel remains light gray and almost "invisible" but this is however the best alternative from the other points of view. I have not tested with all applications but I believe that this will work. At least it works with Libre Office applications, Gimb and also with Mines and some other that I tried. I made also the panel and icons there little bigger so that these are not so invisible any more.

Hi
I believe that this is solved until now. We can wait until Zorin 9 Lite is released and whether it will bring something new. Is there still need for additional installation of themes or not. However I feel that this case study gave valuable information, what are the problems there and also possible solutions. Thanks for help for me and also for some other using Zorin Lite os..

Hi,

go here for more Openbox themes:

http://box-look.org/index.php?xcontentmode=7402

Zorin Lite uses Openbox/LXDE. :D
