(SOLVED)Lose window title bar and Avant bar with 2nd monitor

I have a small problem with my Acer Aspire One netbook. Everything works just fine until I plug in an external monitor. The screens flicker and then the screen blanks for a bit. Then, the desktop comes back up, extended across the two screens, but I lose the top borders on the application windows and the Avant taskbar disappears.

The only way I can get the taskbar and window frames back is to unplug the monitor and log out (and log back in).

Is there something about OS 8 that I need to know (or do) to get Avant to work properly when running with two monitors?

Hi,

do you have an ATI/AMD or Nvidia graphics card?:

Try running arandr. It's got settings for multiple monitors, mirroring or not, etc. It's in the repos.

Code:
sudo apt-get install arandr

Thank you very much! It looks like arandr was the solution.
