I have installed Zorin alongside Windows 7 in a dual boot arragement. My plan, after I can use Zorin in all of it's modes, is to offer it as a replacement for those individuals, at this Assisted Living facility, who are concerned about the demise of Microsoft support for Windows XP. I, also, am a resident at this facility and have been offering my services, free of charge, to help them with their computers.
I am interested in the nearest thing to a manual or instructions in the operation of Zorin. I would use this information to learn about Zorin and to create a simple "How to...." guide for the residents who wish to install Zorin.
Any suggestions?

Bill > That's what the [ Forum ] is pretty much for.
One just has to take the time to read over everything.
And there are hundred fold how to's [ videos ] on [ youtube.com ]
Here's the Ubuntu Forum...in which Zorin OS is based off that can help resolve problems likewise.

And here's a link for reference with quite a few Linux applications.

I take it there are NO Zorin explicit manuals? I also need to find the version of Zorin that I installed. I looked in a "Help" , "About" and found a version #. But, alas, it was for gnome. Where do I find the version for the Zorin I installed?

Hi Bill,
not that I am aware of!.
Any questions explicite to Zorin OS can be asked on this forum, otherwise you can use the Ubuntu manual.
The post install guides I provided are mostly general settings that you can use in any Ubuntu/Debian environment.

Had to remove Zorin. Screwed it up to much to be useful ,trying to download applications and get the apps either on the desktop or in the menu. Getting ready to start over. I'm trying to apply Windows 7 knowledge to Zorin. A couple of questions need to be answered before I start again
.
1. What is best method to install programs.? In Windows I generally DL using the browser and then let the program installer do it's thing.
2. In Windows, a DL from browser, generally, results in a folder being created in Program Files, some portions of program in other folders and an entry(s) in the registry. What happens in Zorin?
3.Is there a Zorin equivelent to the Uninstaller by Revo available for installation?

Hi Bill,
use "Gdebi to install single packages and Synaptic to remove as it has a GUI, you can also use Ubuntu Software Center in install/remove apps but it is slow!.

I strongly suggest reading comptia'a "Linux +" book .... this book is more for administrators, but if you really want to learn it has alot of data... and pretty much any linux certification guide will be very helpful to you I'm sure.

BTW. Instead of reading, the following is a pretty good video course on Linux Sysadmin Basics. It's not easy, not for a complete beginner, but if you've worked a few years with Windows, it couldn't hurt to give it try. In term of a general introduction to Linux command line usage, I think this is one of the best free video courses currently online.
