Zorin screen is cropped

I recently downloaded and installed Zorin 8 in a multi boot configuration with XP and Linux Mint Cinnamon. The Zorin install went well with only one problem. The desktop does not fill the entire screen area. The taskbar is at the bottom (XP mode), but there is a narrow black strip between the taskbar and the background picture. I experience the same problem using the Chrome browser. I have looked through quite a few of the threads and cannot find anything similar.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi,

open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + t) and paste the following command and then restart:

Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -f

What graphics card do you have and have you installed any drivers?. Paste the following command and post the feedback here if the update command doesn't help you at all:

Code:
lspci

Hi,

you have an Intel grahics card "Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)" of which should already have the best driver installed automatically!.

What screen resolution are you using, you can try raising or lowering it and see if that helps.

System Settings > Hardware > Screen Display > Resolution and adjust it!.
Screen Display_027.jpg

Let us know if that helps!. :D

There are only two resolutions available, 1024 x 768 and 800 x 600, Changing the resolution has no effect on the problem. Perhaps I should try another video card? I have one stored somewhere, so I wouldn't be out anything except the time to insert and configure it.

Thanks again,
Justin

Been looking around the net for similar graphics issues with same chipset. Take a look at this:

Hi Justin,

you might want to try a lighter version of Linux, something like Zorin Lite which might take out the stress factor on your graphics card!.

Zorin Lite 8 is only supported until June 2014, Zorin 9 Lite will be out soon!. :D

Thanks for all of your suggestions Wolfman. I have been considering the Lite version and may try that soon. I am going to try the link provided by Swarfendor437 first, and should that fail I will load Zorin Lite for a runthrough.
Thanks again, and I will post back to let you know how things turn out.
