Start-up Issues

Hello all,

New to ZorinOS and and still a bit green when it comes to Linux, but trying my best. I hope someone can help me through a problem.

I managed to install ZorinOS as a dual boot with my Win7, giving it all the necessary partitions and using EasyBCD as the boot manager. However, whenever I try to startup into ZorinOS, the screen hangs before the splash screen, all black. I tried to boot into recovery mode, but it still hangs; right at where it is loading the DVD drive. This problem has persisted through several other Ubuntu/Debian based distros.

Occasionally, it manages to break through and load on it own, but mostly not. Any ideas? Note: the drive is connected as IDE, probably a slave...don't really remember.

firstly did you do a disk install and follow this advice?:

What are your system specs?.

I suspect that if the same problem occurs with various versions of Linux, you should be using a Lite version but as we don't know your system specs, that is pure speculation!.

NB: Zorin Lite 8 is only supported until June 2014 and you will have to do a new install with Zorin Lite 9 when it becomes available!.

Thanks for the reply. And sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Certain parts of life take precedence.

I installed Zorin 8 (not lite) with a USB. It works perfectly fine on my other computers, just not on this particular one.

I have, as my partitions:
Win Boot sector
Primary Windows partition
Extended partition:
-Linux Boot sector
-Swap
-ZorinOS root
Files and Data Partition

Yes, within the extended it is boot, swap and root. I am using the files and folders partition as the home, shared with Windows. This setup never had any issue on my other computers.
