Hi,

I am quite happy with the performance of Zorin OS 8 Lite
on my small old Hannspree Atom N270 netbook.

On this netbook with its small keyboard I frequently
continue my texts in CAPITALS due to touching
the Caps Lock key.

I have been unsuccessful in finding out how to
disable the lock and make this key an additiona Shift
Key.

Can someone me ?

Thanks

I don't have access to Lite but see if you can install dconf-tools:

Open a terminal (Ctrl+ Alt+ T) and enter:

Code:
sudo apt-get install dconf-tools

This should create a menu item called 'Dconf Editor' - it's layout is similar to Windows registry - to expand the main item in the left pane, click on the triangle to expand the list - look for 'peripherals' and search what is in the right pane to disable Caps Lock. :D

Thank you for your reaction.

I installed dconf-tools.

I ran updater.

When i open dconf-editor the left pane lists:
apps
ca
com
desktop
org
system

i do not get info on the right pane.

i cannot locate a triangle.

For your information:
I earlier installed gnome tweak-tool that enabled me to
choose from various Caps lock settings, but these settings
did not alter the system.

If possible, please give me further comments.

Thank you beforehand.

You should see very tiny triangles to the left of all those headings you posted - click on them and they expand the list then click on one of the headings to see something in the right pane! ;)

Thank you.

I did not understand what was meant by the word triangle (not being native English)

I found now under:
org
gnome
desktop
applications

the line where I could set "disable-lock-screen".

I did so.

Rebooted.

But alas, without avail.

Apparently Zorin OS 8 Lite does not react to Dconf Editor settings.

Regrettably all efforts remained unsuccessful so far.

Hi,

I have examined all possibilities to disable Caps Lock
under Zorin OS 8 Lite without avail.

As I use my netbook for short messages almost daily when
travelling a drastic solution was acceptable.

This weekend I decided to give Zorin OS 6.4 LTS a try.

Zorin OS 6.4 is based on Ubuntu 12.04 and disabling
Caps Lock should be no problem.

Surprisingly starting time of Zorin OS 6.4 took only
an additional 10 seconds in comparison to Zorin OS 8 Lite.

And disabling Caps Lock was easily done via via System
Settings > Keyboard > Layout Settings > Options

I thank you for trying tot help me.

This week i replaced Zorin 6.4 by Zorin 9 in order to meet the requirements of an updated media program.
I installed the Tweak Tool (gnome3) from Software Center and found that using this tool i could easily Disable the Caps Lock via the header "typing".

The problem is SOLVED now.
