How can I force my pci ethernet card to only use 10mbps?

In addition to two home computers in the house I have one very long line on my home internet network that runs over 300 feet to a small office outside the home. Using Windows XP I had to go into the Device Manager and manually restrict that computer's ethernet card to 10mbps full duplex data speed in order to be able to use the internet. How can I do this same thing within Zorin? So far I have not been able to figure it out. Zorin 8 does not seem to be "auto detecting" the maximum feasible speed. Zorin 8 just reports that the internet connection is broken, unplugged or nonfunctioning. My internet connection is a high speed DSL.
