Zorin OS 8 installed on a Sony Vaio Laptop

P4 2.8Ghz
1Gb RAM
ATI Radeon IGP 345M

This laptop was previously running Slacko Puppy very well and fast but I did not like the GUI so I loaded Zorin 8.

Everything works but it's dog slow every window loads with a 'jerky' motion. I think the problem is the ATI Radeon IGP graphics. Has anyone installed this OS on the Radeon IGP 345M? or can anyone shed any light on the slowness.

Just found this:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver

Looks like its an R200 if this is anything to go by it could be the issue - I await further responses! :(

I would suggest you disable compiz animations

Zorin Menu > System Tools > Preferences > CompizSonfig Settings Man
Then under "Effects" uncheck the checkbox for "Animations" and click close.

The setting should take affect within a few seconds.
