[MOVED] I need help setting up dual monitors.

I have 2 lcd monitors. 1 is a samsung and the other is a dell. I have the zorin OS installed into a laptop with a busted lcd so I took it out and still need to replace it. Long story short I hooked the samsung monitor into the vga port on my laptop and it works perfictly. I hooked up the dell into the same computer via a vga splitter and all I am getting is the same thing on both screens. What I want to do is expand the desktop to the other monitor. I tried to detect the other monitor in the display settings after shutting off the laptops onbord lcd, which I also did through the display settings. (The onboard isn't there so correct me if i am wrong shouldn't even show as an option under the settings tab. It dosn't in windows 7). The purpose of this is to be able to run terminal windows and other background things on one screen while using the other for main computing.


Why can I not seem to accomplish this.
