I have my /home on a separate partition so installing the SSD wasn't just as simple as cloning the existing drive.
The way I did it was
1 Partitioned the new SSD with two partitions, one ext4 for / and one linux swap
2 Used Clonezilla to clone the existing / partition to the SSD leaving /home partition on my existing drive
3 Booted into a Live session and changed the boot and swap flags to the new SSD partitions
4 Deleted the original / and swap partitions
Used Boot Repair to sort out GRUB
