How to use PS3 controller with Zorin OS 9 and PCSX?

I've looked and looked and only found outdated tutorials and nothing that works with my PS3 controller. I have to use USB since I have no blue tooth and I would like to play ps1 games. Sounded pretty simple to me but I can never get my controller connected :p thanks in advance!
