There is following info in indicator aplet>

WiFi Network Intel Dual Band wireless AC3160
WiFi is disabled by hardware switch (internal wifi)

Are you trying to enable your internal card or an external usb?
Your internal wireless card should work just fine. I see it uses the iwlwifi driver amd this driver is included in the kernel. It is open source.
Your problem us that your wireless is switched off by a hardware switch. Try to find the switch that turns your wifi on. This switch may be a physical switch, or a key combination like Fn+F2.
Also search your Bios settings to make sure that any option concerning wireless is set to "enabled".

There is not any physical switch and I did not find any Fn key either to enble the wifis. In BIOS wifi is set to "enabled". What I tried additionally was the System settings/Network. There both int. and USB wifis shows to be switshed to OFF position. However that can not be changed there. It turns allways back to OFF position. There are however both wifis visible and the other (USB) dissappears there when removed physically, so the device is detected to be connected. So I am now out of ideas what else I can do.

The radical thing was that I took off the preinstalled Windows 8.1 entirely from this new laptop and installed there only Zorin 9. So I realy want to get wifi there working. I have also a G3 internet USB adapter to be used out of wifi range, but I have not tried it yet whether it works with this. It works fine with my Android tablet.

Does the solution offered here help?

By the wy, I would edit your originl post to remove those 'serial numbers' - unless you want a "cracker" attack! ;)

Hi, Yeees it started to work. :D :D Many thanks for you both. Exellent service from you. Serial is removed also, thanks for that also. I am really glad to get this working now. No any other problems to install zorin 9 there.

To day I tried also the mobile 3G internet connection with an USB dongle and it started to work just fine. It is a "Huawei Mobile Connect E160E HSDPA USB Stick". It was easy to "install" with only selecting the country and the internet providers name from the installation menu. It may require that the "asking of PIN code" is "disabled" in the SIM card by using a phone. I made it already when I connected it to my tablet. I got this advice from the internet provider when it did not connect to the net.

No need to disable the "ask for pin". When you plug the 3g dongle, wait abotu 10 seconds and a window will pop up asking for the pin.
