Skype VIdeo and Sound Lagging

Hey everyone!

I hope you're all doing good! I've been having an issue with skype on my Zorin OS 9.

Everything has been working perfectly with Zorin so far, except for the video and sound on skype and places like Google+, where i lags horribly. I do not have this issue when i use programs like Cheese webcam booth.

Let me give you the basics of my computer -

- It's a Dell Inspiron N4030 laptop with 2gb of RAM, 64bit.
- Zorin is my only operative system installed. (replaced windows 7)
- Since my laptop screen is damaged, i have to use a plug in HP monitor, but i never experienced any issues in regards to that on my windows installation. Just thought it was a good idea to mention it.

To give further details, the lags occurs on the other end. Sometimes it fixes, but only for a short time before reverting back to lagging and having the sound arrive to them after around 2 or 3 seconds after.

My system Info:

Hi, the kernel you listed is the very latest release (update). If it is not too much bother to you, I would be tempted to 'purge' skype and re-install it, then do a system update afterward.

1. Open a terminal and enter:

Code:
sudo apt-get purge skype && sudo apt-get install skype

2. After a fresh install of Skype, run system update in the Terminal:

Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
- the latter command will look for any necessary dependencies that will be needed following the kernel update that applications may need updating to! ;)

I also made a tutorial video on how to install Skype here:

I know it was for 8, not 9 but it will be the same procedure, come what may! ;)

You may also like to consider jitsi - you don't know who is looking at your Skype conversations!

Hello!

Thank you for your answer!

I found out that it's not really Skype, since this also happens on Google+. Do you think then it has to do with my graphics card/drivers? I tried using this topic viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6951

to uninstall and reinstall my video drivers, but that didnt work

I think your ironlake graphics may be the issue - the intel forum makes me laugh with derision:

https://communities.intel.com/thread/33 ... 0&tstart=0

The 'adviser' suggests a complaint be made to the makers of Ubuntu - if Intel are not going to supply the driver there is not a chance in hades it is going to get resolved - lobby intel for ironlake support in GNU/Linux period!
