OS not fluid and smooth

I just installed OS9 on my pc a week ago and realised that it is not at all smooth! the os is slow and the transitions and animations are choppy. it is a dual OS pc on which i run win 8.1 and it is smooth . before this i ran linux mint xiana and it was fine too. the pc is a AMD quad a6 with 4 gig of ram and 500gb harddrive. any ideas to what the problem maybe?

Could you provide us with detailed spec and what graphics are in use? Did you switch off 'fast boot' in Windows 8.1? ;)

APUa6-3420m , 4gb ram and ati radeon hd6470m graphiccs of 1gb

Bearing in mind I am not clear how good ATi/AMD is when it comes to mobile versions! :(
