[SOLVED] Brightness on Gateway NELA0

I have installed the latest version of Zorin on my Gateway NELA0 laptop, on this laptop I cannot change the brightness of the screen. when I press my brightness buttons I do see a pop-up from Zorin showing a sun and a bar that indicates the OS is trying to change the brightness of my screen, but it can't. This does work in Windows. I suspect this is a problem with my drivers, but I'm not sure how to fix this. Does anyone have any suggestions? Obviously I'm sure you will need more info to help me, but anyone that is willing, I would really appreciate it.

Ok, I tried this, but it didn't work. however, it may still be part of the solution, because I DO still have these settings activated. What ended up fixing it was on this page: http://itsfoss.com/fix-brightness-ubuntu-1310/

just thought I'd post what worked for me in case anyone finds this in the future :)
