High, I can see various threads that refer to webplus as something people use on the Zorin forums. I'm not sure if these people are saying there using microsoft windows or Zorin to do it though ? This is encouraging people mentioning often as its as popular as Dreamweaver for businesses and simpler. Not only that its a decent business program compared to dreamweavers bulkier offering. No offense to dreamweaver fans ! So it may suit a business edition perfectly.

Given the popularity it should also please a lot of businesses around the world should it become possible using it on Zorin and cause them to move over to Zorin permanently. I wondered since webplus do not recommend any other operation system other than windows if it can work on Zorin ? People seem to have talked about it for about 4 years now on the forum which is a good popularity indicator. :)

Does it works via wine or play on linux now - Has anyone or could anyone try this out for us ? I am no techie at all unfortunately my apologies ?

Its seems a great community here. Its good to see the positivity on different threads to achieve many things. This is actually my first post as you might of picked up.

Many thanks.

Webplus is not DTP it is a Web design and publishing tool - not to be confused with Serif PagePlus which is both DTP (Desk Top Publisher) and Web designer - no I have not got it to work - and the same for their latest incarnation it would appear:

High it looks like through gradual persuasion it could become possible. Especially if serif seem to understand the need for safe computing with linux. Will it be all be down to webplus coding for windows being too complex ?

Such a pity but great to see your attempting to make this possible. I'll be the first donater to any ubuntu based distro if it becomes possible. I understand it is a web designer actually I am relatively familiar. Its getting a credible program like webplus to work thats the issue as wordpress is often to cumbersome and less secure for many. The zorin umbrella has a good concept of reaching out to businesses too with simple business programs so its remains a good fit. Often people are put off by the worry of complexity with Red hat etc. The appearance of clean efficient distro similar to windows gives the edge for people to mark Zorin as a simple business provider alternative. Popularity eventually with this format should lead to a higher donation rate with people being prepared to pay more on donation too. Also that windows similarity and any bug removals will surely make it a favoured distro the more things work with it the better.

Just my thoughts out loud I suppose. Great job though !

What you need to be aware is that Distributions, regardless of whether Ubuntu, Red Hat, or Open SuSE et al owe their Windows App capability primarily to winehq.org/Codeweavers.com and secondly to projects such as PlayOnLinux and the now defunct WineDoors project. No distribution can honestly claim to hold the solution to running Windows programs - it is down to the application writers and what dependencies are needed for them to run - a good example of this is Silverlight which M$ dropped support for in respect of GNU/Linux and so Pipelight was born. If ActiveX is involved in any Windows Application then it is not worth having due to the high vulnerability to attack that comes with ActiveX extensions. The one culprit that is an attack vector on all platforms is 'Flash' which is why I guess there has been a push for HTML5 - which in turn has its own vulnerabilities - a hack was discovered that could fill your hard drive with html5 code, rendering your hard drive as good as dead! If you want to try yourself, first in Windows download and install 'dependencywalker':

http://www.dependencywalker.com/

but be sure to read their faq page

http://www.dependencywalker.com/faq

Then open winecfg and add the .dll's from the drop-down list - if .dll library names are not present you can simply add the name as a custom library (no need to add '.dll' to the name.

To get games to work, you have to copy the entire contents onto the .wine C:/ drive, a hidden folder in your '/home' folder - name the folder you copy the game or application exactly the same as that of the CD/DVD. Once you have copied everything across, highlight everything, right-click and select properties, then on Permissions tab select the 'run as Program' is check marked' then look for the 'setup.exe' and run with Wine Program Loader - NO GUARANTEES! :D

High I thought I'd just post this as there is an interesting thread over at the Webplus community forums. I included the old webplus forum comment that Becky made from a while back to see what they say.

If you are intersted in the Linux debate for including webplus software see this - https://community.serif.com/forum/pagep ... swer114610

Hi,

I don't use the app but that link points to a thread that is 7 years old, is that still the case?.
