Hey,

I just got and old HP thin client;
http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/publ ... -c01087297

the os on that suck and cant do much with it...i figured that maybe i can use the client and boot up Zorin from an flash drive and then run Zorin on it so i can connect it to my tv and use it as a kind of mediaplayer and for goin on the web.

I cant seem to get it starting up from the flashdrive..

ive burned the iso to a dvd, not copied it but burned it....then i booted my pc up from the cd and installed it on the flashdrive...My pc will boot up from the flash drive and start Zorin without any problems bu the T5530 wont....did i do something wrong with the settings during install or is the T5530 just that old and i should trash it? :D

Age is not an issue here I think it is the way that thin clients, even more recent ones, how their hardware is configured. Now I don't know if it is possible to do this:

1. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... mbedded.60).aspx

then this;

2. http://www.plop.at/en/bootmanager/index.html

and finally this;

3. http://rufus.akeo.ie/

Now bearing in mind that your HP thin client has an SSD it may require trimming first:

http://techgage.com/article/enabling_an ... der_linux/

http://askubuntu.com/questions/263543/f ... s-not-work

which reminded me that for SSD's you should manually format the drive to ext2 - a non-journaling system - it is why such devices always shipped with FAT32 versions of Windows! :D

Please note the above are the rambling thoughts of a swarf' :D

Hi,

you can also try running in recovery mode at startup and run DPKG per this guide, a network cable is required:

Hi Wolfman,

There appears to be an issue with thin clients and Ubuntu and their forks - the threads I posted indicate that Debian can run because it uses different kernels to thosed used in ubuntu? ;)
