Zorin OS 9 not recognizing full RAM installed

Thanks4Help

Mon Feb 02, 2015 6:55:41 pm

I just installed two sticks of RAM, each of which are 2gb
I SHOULD be seeing 4gb total ram

memtest x86 DOES see two sticks of RAM, each of which are 2gb

But when I check this in Zorin OS 9, it shows "Memory 2.7 GiB"

I am seeing this in Zorin under:
All "Settings/About this computer/Overview" which lists such items as:
Device name
memory (2.7 Gib... which SHOULD show 4.0 GiB)
processor = Intel Core 2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz x2
Graphics = Gallium 0.4 on NVA5
OS type = 64-bit
Disk = 627.8 GB

>QUESTION> How can I get Zorin OS 9 to recognize the full 4.0 GB of ram I have installed? I have the 64 bit OS... I am not sure what I may be missing...

Thanks for your help

Hi,

do a full system update per this guide and see if it fixes the problem:

sincere thanks Swarfendor437... in this case, I do have 64 bit Zorin installed, so thats not the "magic lock code" I am seeking, but I still sincerely thank you for your reply

Wolfman and Swarfendor437, Im VERY much a newbie, but I am committed to learning as I go and leaving the world of MS behind me

So far, it looks like altering "kernel" will be my next attempted fix... at present, I havent a clue what between a kernel of Linux and a kernel of wheat in the field :oops:

But, I will learn :geek:

I refuse to give up and return to MS... I just wont do it

Im busy at work this week, and need my computer to work right now... but this weekend I will read up on kernels, and see if changing kernel might alleviate the issue

for today, the computer I tried to upgrade from 2gb Ram to 4gb Ram has 2.7gb Ram... its humming right along for now...

...after l figure out what a kernel is, I'll one step less clueless in the linux world :D

Thanks for the help, I will update you as soon as I can try the kernel-swap idea

Hi,

don't forget to do the full system update before you start worrying about mucking around with kernels!.
