Hi zeta

What version of Zorin OS are you using ?, Skype is pre-installed in Zorin OS 9 Ultimate (Zorin Menu > Internet >Skype)

There is also Empathy (I have not used this yet but looks quite good) More about Empathy

See my tutorial video as the one that ships with Zorin is out-of-date - it should be 4.3:

But we shouldn't really be using it! ;)

so use:

http://jitsi.org instead - and get your contacts to change too! :D

Hi,

open Synaptic > Settings > Repositories > Other Software and make sure you have a tick in "Canonical", close the window then click on "Reload", type "skype" in search and mark it for install and then on "Apply":

Thank you Wolfman, I was able to get it back up... but same as before. I uninstalled it becasue i couldnt Update it. I felt Updating might fix this problem "Skype Can't Connect"

@ Swarfendor437, Thank you for the useful info, I passed it on. There is a need to Video chat across platforms. Zorin to Android and skype seems to be the only one to be able to achieve this. Jitsi is in beta stages for android and i cant rely on that for inexperienced users, since im on the laptop i can play around, update, ect, on an android its not as easy especcially for novices, first time users. I would be more then happy to give skype up if i can find a usable(Multi-Platform) safer alternative.

Hi,

first remove Skype with the following command:

Code:
sudo apt-get purge skype

Then remove its hidden folder:

Code:
sudo rm -R ~/.Skype

or:

Code:
rm -R ~/.Skype

Remove any desktop/panel icons you have!.

Then download the 4.3 version from here:

http://www.skype.com/en/download-skype/ ... -for-linux

Right click and install with Gdebi:

Code:
sudo apt-get install gdebi

if not installed!. :D

There is another one that is compatible with 'Blink' on Mac for Windows and GNU/Linux but router needs port-forwarding to work - which I never got round to doing on the now defunct Netgear Router. :D

When I can remember what it was I will post back. :D

If you follow my video tutorial you shouldn't have any issues! :D

I tried something along that line and it didnt work, then however i cant quite recall how, I right clicked the icon in the awn and i think an option let me update. It does work now. Isnt there an option in Softwre Center to update?
I will repost when i find out how i did it with how i did it.

Hi,

it has a simple interface which helps keep it simple to maintain, don't forget that Microsoft own Skype now so we shouldn't really complain as they are still maintaining it for Linux!:

The one I could not remember was 'Ekiga' (formerly 'GnomeMeeting') - but as you can see there are a lot of alternatives!!!:
