(SOLVED) Unloadable update

I am using Zorin 6.4 on my netbook and am quite happy with its performance.

When i use "updater" the update process always runs flawlessly, but for one update
which remains unloaded and outstanding.

The system reports "1 update has been selected. 86kB will be downloaded.".

When i restart and run "updater" again this item remains and downloading does not start.

I can live with this shortcoming that exists since I installed Zorin 6.4 in July 2014
but of course I would like to get rid of this one remaining item.

Could someone suggest a solution.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

see the update guide:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2247

and change your software sources download location per the instructions.

Let us know if this helps. :D

Thank you for your quick response Mr. Wolfman.

I followed your instructions and made my computer select the best server

Although i updated yesterday, today 13 fresh updates were reported and installed.

Regrettably, after completion of the update process the line
"1 update has been selected. 86 kB will be downloaded" remained.

This update has no description and is remaining in the cache.

Apparently it is not really needed, but how to get it out of the cache?

Could you suggest how to do it?

Thanks.

I may add that when searching further that in this forum I found that URTHJ posted the
similar problem under the heading of "clearing update manager"on July, 01, 2012.

He got some suggestions of how to solve the matter, but the matter is not reported as
"SOLVED".

I tried myself the various suggestions that followed, but without avail.

As i am happy with the performance of my netbook (Hannspree=MSI Wind)
I think i will have to live with the update shortcoming.

My wife uses a netbook (Asus) also under Zorin 6.4 with mostly identical programs,
but uses Dutch language versions.

I used the same Zorin 6.4 download for both netbooks.

The only differences in setup are:

Hannspree keyboard adapted to UK-lay-out and
Asus netbook adapted to Dutch language.

Hi,

open Synaptic and type in search the name of the offending package, once it shows up in the window, click on it once then go to "Package > Lock Version" and it will stop it from trying to update!.

Thank you Mr Wolfman.

Via Synaptic I found the update that could not be installed.

I clicked on it and without further action it disappeared.

I opened Update Manager, checked, and indeed no outstanding update anymore.

I think that the update involved was indeed executed, but that for some reason
it was not being registered as done.

Whatever, the problem is over.

Thank you.
