Computer: Compaq CQ61-414NR 64 bit OS: Zorin 9.1

Recently received this computer. After an adventure in trying to set up a dual boot, I gave up and went with a whole new install. As in Zorin only.

Have been using Zorin (8.2) and really like it. That said, I have a few questions concerning wine and a couple programs.

Installed calibre from their web site using the terminal...NOT software provided with Zorin. I installed Kindle app and adobe digital editions via winetricks.
Adobe seems to work, but Kindle does not. It is registered, etc. I can visit Kindle store, purchase and download books. App will not let me open them. Says "Cannot open book. Remove from harddrive and re-download". Tried this with repeated results.

Calibre also works, except will not read drm'd books. Even the de-drm tools do not work as they do with the Windows 7 version. And when I try to figure it out, I get a box that asks for default decryption keys (.der? for Adobe, .k4i for kindle?). I keep getting a "default could not be found". the same with the epubs (adobe). Also, does anybody know how to find default wine prefix? Don't really want to create...just to find it.

Am aware that my newbie status is showing, but I will never know if I don't ask, right? And I do not have these problems when using Windows 7 in my old machine. Basically, all I want to do is to read the books I purchase and download.

If there is no answer for the above, does anybody know of an app for Zorin that allows me to read kindle (purchased with drm?)

Thank You for any and all assistance.

Hi dale,

firstly, you do know that Zorin 8 is no longer supported don't you?.

Secondly, you can look here, I don't do E-Books so I hope this helps you:

There is also a FireFox extension but I don't know how good it is, read the reviews first!:

If you want to upgrade Zorin 8 to 9 and keep your data intact:

Zorin 9 download from here:

I hope it all helps!. :D

I should clarify that I used Zorin 8 in my old Dell. As stated in the first line of my post, I am now using 9.1.

I will try the links,
Thank You very much for the info.
