Capacitor

After toiling for many hours, I cant seem to get this working. I have the LATEST Zorin software. I have USB WNDA31200v2 adapter from Net Gear that works fine in Windows but NOT at all in Zorin.

I installed the Ndiswrapper. I installed the Windows Wireless Driver. I actually installed the bsmlhigh5.inf file!

A little icon in the Windows Wireless driver program shows the .inf files IS installed. But is says NO hardware present! My USB is connected!!

I am a complete Newbee. So when you give instructions...please give me them step by step and from the beginning. I might have done something wrong along the way.

Anyones help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

thanks

Michael

OK, depending on whether you are using:

32-bit Zorin check my post here:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=8194&hilit=WNDA#p39622

If 64-bit Zorin check my post here:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6354&hilit=WNDA

You will need to remove the drivers you have already installed - I used to use the exact same dongle until eldest wanted Windows 8.1 on their PC - the files worke for me using Windows Wireless Drivers. ;)

If still having issues see this thread here and read onwards from madvinegar's postings:

Hope this helps! Keep us posted! :D

No. In the other page when it says:

I then restarted the machine.

Next I went to Menu | System Tools | Administration | Windows Wireless Drivers - you will be asked for your login password to elevate to root.

I then installed this 64-bit driver:

bcmn43xx64.inf.tar.gz

Its NOT asking for a gz file. Its asking for a .inf file

I installed an inf file and the driver loaded OK but it says "hardware present: no".

So I am stuck. Can I possibly call someone on the phone who is gracious enough to walk me through this? Otherwise, I am going to have to give up cause its just beyond my skill level. I make websites, and such so I am good with computers, but this problem is WAY beyond me.

The issue is when Windows Wireless Driver says "Hardware present: No".

My dongle IS installed. I am using Windows 7 right now with it too and it works fine. But NOT for Zorin. Can I talk with someone on the phone about this or can someone give me detailed instructions? I am at my wits end. I will have to unload Linux if I cant get this going and go back to Windows. I rather work with Linux. My Zorin is a 64 bit.

thanks

Hi

Look this, here might be something to get that Net Gear working:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=9076

That A-Link's link does not work, it has been changed and also the dongle is now WACU-A replacing that WNU-A(L) in the picture that I have. Here a new link:

http://www.a-link.com/index.php/products/wlan/wacu-a

I have not tested that WACU-A, but it is said to be Linux compatible according to spec.

The tar.gz file is a compressed file. You need to de-compress it and you will find the inf file inside it.
Therefore, right click the tar.gz file and select "extract here" from the menu.

Hi, Firstly, make sure you have a hardwire connection to your router. Can you launch synaptic package manager please (just enter 'synaptic' in the Windows 7 like menu bar - it should return it.)

Launch synaptic - you will be asked for your login password to elevate you to 'root'.

In the search box near the top and in middle enter 'ndiswrapper' - see if 'ndiswrapper-dkms' and 'ndiswrapper-source' are installed - if not, select them for installation then click on 'Apply changes' - these two packages are usually vital for wireless to work and an issue I have faced many times! ;)

Reboot after you have installed and open a terminal and enter:

Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-uprade

Reboot once more then:

Go back to Windows Wireless Drivers and remove any .inf files installed that are showing and then install the extracted 64-bit .inf file.

Keep us posted! :D

ndiswrapper-source is NOT installed

I tried to select it for installation but there is nowhere to do that.

I installed ndiswrapper source. ALL of the ndiswrappers are installed as you listed. then at the bottom message as I try to install a .inf file...it gave me the message below. CAN I talk to you on the phone to speed this up? this is endliess I have been over a week doing this. I am at my wits end.

NONE of the 64 bit .inf files work. no files work. the best closest one was bcmhigh5.inf it said hardware present:no

I got this message

Module could not be loaded. Error was:

modprobe: FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found.

Is the ndiswrapper module installed?
